Behold! A cassette reissue of Magic Hilt’s “Bell Keep Compendium” has appeared. A formerly anonymous project–brought to light as a work of the Gray Friar–Magic Hilt balances the blade between the glory of named men and their battle-tested swords with the bloodstained realities and guilt of medieval combat. Sonically, Magic Hilt is the sound of decaying triumph, of warbled warsong, degraded through the passage of time. These are songs of victory and lament, of magic blessed weaponry and the cursed memory of putrid fields of the dead. Inspired by the works of R.A. Salvatore and the historical accounts of El Cid, “Bell Keep Compendium” is a melancholic invocation imbued with light from the dying hands of the magus.

A dreamy, beguiling, nostalgic dungeon synth quest through the shires. But, it's so much more than that. The LP incorporates some unique key changes, field recordings and a lot of Mort Garson style synth work. It sometimes reminds me of old 70's PG horror soundtracks.
